This is a mid-1950s Mexican divided red terracotta clay dish. (also pronounced as terra cotta or terra-cotta) The origin of this type of ceramics or pottery making is from China, Korea, and/or Japan. In the 1950s, this type of high temperature ceramics or stoneware started to appeared in Mexico. A small group of Mexican ceramic artists had learned this technique of pottery making overseas and introduced this technique to the Mexico pottery makers in the 1950s. Today there are several regional areas, which pottery makers still make this type of Stoneware. They are handmade and fired only one in a outdoor kiln and then the finish glazed was hand applied. Then the clay tableware was, delicately decorated with colorful flowers, fishes, and/or other designs, which were also hand, applied. This piece came from a estate and was bought by a family members in the med-1950s. There is some paint that has worn off on the divider. Other than that it is in excellent condition with no cracks, chips, fleabites, nicks, repairs, or stains.
